This $35 million adaptive reuse project involved accommodation of a large performance space within the former locomotive workshop. The project also involved remodelling the former industrial building to create contemporary offices, entertainment facilities and associated facilities in addition to conservation and interpretation of the surviving industrial machinery.
OCP undertook a detailed fabric survey and documentation of new and repair works to heritage fabric including detail drawings and photographic documentation, specification sections, conservation action plans and detailed schedules for stonework. OCP have also implemented archival photography and coordination of archaeological work. Subsequently, OCP worked with Tonkin Zulaikha Greer on the insertion of a new performing arts centre into the existing building.
The work was a major component in redeveloping the Carriage Works site as a cultural and creative arts precinct. Heritage fabric removed to facilitate the work was reused in new structures on site.
